I always remember the picnics , and the amount of people that attended them .Only one person in this photo had a car ,and how the rest of them got there remains a mystery .Our car was always full of adults and children .They were days of high adventure ,games of hide and seek, cowboys and indians,crossing streams,getting stuck in muck and having to be rescued, and without fail someone would walk into a cow pat and have to have their shoes cleaned.( It usually was me). Penrose Street Off South Lotts Road was were my Grannie Canavan lived, and as you can see it was a location that all the relations used as their meeting place . My father called it "THE HEADQUARTERS" , and I think we must have visited the house 6 times a week,( EVERY WEEK). I had the run of the place, and have very fond memories of my Grandmother, relations and everyone else that were associated with the street.
